Everton given the go ahead to build brand-new £500m stadium.

The new attraction for Liverpool is said to bring a £1bn boost to the local economy, as well as helping to attract 1.4m new tourists to Liverpool.

Everton executives and fans alike have expressed their excitement for the massive build, as it is said to create 15,000 new jobs for the local area. The stadium will replace Goodison Park, which has stood as the club's home ground since 1892.

The 52,000 capacity stadium is a bitter-sweet move for some Everton enthusiasts, with Everton's longest serving captain Kevin Ratcliffe stating that 'it will be heart-breaking for some fans to leave Goodison Park, but it is a ground that is ageing' (BBC, 2021).

As Ratcliffe suggests, the move was always considered an inevitable one, with the stadium looking as rickety as ever in its over-100 year tenure. It has however seen some incredible moments from the team, with the glory days of Dixie Dean and the success of the team in the 1980's.

More recently in the 21st Century, Everton have struggled to attain any silverware since 1995, a drought that they hope will be averted coming in to this new stadium. The beginning of the new investment in to the Bramley Dock area will begin on the 26th July, 2021, with Robert Jenrick, the Minister of Housing, Communities and Local Government, stating that he sees 'no reason' to intervene (BBC, 2021). There is no completion date set in stone yet, with the second phase of erection set to begin in early 2022.

My Side, Flipped.

Seeing as I'm an Everton fan, I'm obviously delighted that this new stadium is being built. Football is now a lucrative business in which billionaire's such as Fashad Moshiri (who made a £450m investment in to Everton back in 2016) will look to profit from. This would simply be impossible in an out-dated stadium such as Goodison Park. Nevertheless, I will always have an emotional tie to the ground, seeing as my first game there was when I was 18 months-old! Regardless, the new move will hopefully allow us to venture in to new territory with silverware, and finally get the cobwebs blown out from our trophy cabinet. The future looks bright for us.
